Bible Study Wrap-Up: What’s Nextfeatured
I’m grateful to have studied Philippians with many of you this summer. I hope and pray that your study was encouraging and helped you grow in your love for God and your desire for His Word.
Whether you did the study, struggled with it, studied well on your own, or feel like the summer was a big fat failure in terms of spiritual disciplines, I want to encourage you with this reminder: it is not by our efforts or achievements that we earn God’s good pleasure, rather it is God who works in us; He will finish what He started. We press on to make it our own because Christ Jesus has already made us His. (Phil. 1:6, 2:13, 3:12).
And this: From the fullness of Christ, we receive grace upon grace. (John 1:16)
As we look to the fall, I encourage you to continue the discipline of time in the Word. Fall schedules get crazy, but fighting for time to know God more deeply through the Scriptures will only help to provide the foundation we need as we enter the tumultuous times of back-to-school chaos and pending-winter blues.
I invite you to study the book of John with the women of River City this year.
We will not continue to meet weekly, but instead, grab some women in your MC and invite them to join you in studying. Seize your dinnertime conversation as an opportunity to share what you’re learning and how your study is going. We will have a few meet-ups throughout the year to discuss and ask questions in a larger group.
Over the next couple of days, I will be posting some resources to help you continue an inductive study of John from August-May. If you are unfamiliar with the method or struggling with it, don’t worry! I will be posting what I can to help you, there are women in your MC who can help, and you can do as much or as little of the method as you like.
A few notes:
- If you are planning to do BSF, we will follow the same schedule. Adding any inductive elements to your BSF study will only serve to enrich your lesson and help you to grow in making conclusions from Scripture for yourself (and inductive bible study doesn’t break any BSF rules! ;))
- If you’d prefer to follow along with River City’s sermon series, I will also post some resources to support you in going that direction.
Watch for a blog post later this week for more details. But for now, here is how you can get started:
- Talk to the women in your MC. Challenge each other to dig into the Word this year and commit to checking in with each other as you go.
- Start reading John. We’ll spend the first few weeks just reading the whole book, trying to get a feel for the big picture. 3 chapters per day will allow you to read the book once per week. But do what you can. 🙂
