Gather With Usfeatured
By Amy Peterson
Gathering. It requires intentional action ― joining up with others in a shared experience.
Every day our family gathers around the table at mealtime. Food is prepared, table is set, hands are (maybe) washed. And there, amidst picky eaters and spilled milk, we actively engage with each other. Funny stories, things we’ve read, moments that made us smile, thoughts that make us scared. We share it all. There is a rhythm to it. And it matters.
It matters because it is creating ruts in our hearts that keep us moving in the same direction. Together. Because gathering together is not just about what I get, but what I give. It calls me to consider others.
River City Church desires believers to actively gather. Sunday morning worship and Missional Communities exist for the purpose of bringing the body together. In addition to these places of connection, River City Women has recently launched this blog as a way for the women of our church to gather in a central place even when we can’t actually be together in person. It is our intention to provide resources and tools for studying the God’s Word, Biblical encouragement, and information about upcoming women’s events. Our hope is that the posts you read here will be challenging, refreshing, convicting, and uplifting. That God’s Word will create deep ruts in your hearts that keep you moving closer to Jesus.
In her book Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full, Gloria Furman writes, “We need other Christian women in our lives to help us grasp how wide, how long, how high, and how deep is the love of Jesus. Compartmentalizing our spiritual life away from our interactions with other women is unhelpful and spiritually damaging. When we relegate our fellowship with women to discussions of fleeting things and avoid talking about how eternity is pressing on our heart, we’re not doing ourselves or our friends any favors.”
Furman’s words call us to be the kind of women that are dissatisfied with small talk and glossing over sin. To learn to ask the hard questions of each other, and to stick it out when the answers are even harder. To remind our sisters that there is “no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 8:1). To weep and rejoice.
We are excited to gather with you.
